‘Magic Mike’ film shows off plenty of Tampa Bay

BAY AREA – TBO.com

The film Magic Mike is all about exposure – and not just the exposure of male strippers.

The Bay area also gets plenty of screen time in the Channing Tatum film about an up-and-coming male dancer. The film, which loosely follows the true life story of Tatum, who spent part of his youth in Tampa, features multiple scenes shot across the Bay area.

Filmgoers should recognize plenty of scenery in the movie. Director Steven Soderbergh spent two weeks filming scenes locally.

The setting bounces between Ybor City, Tampa, Tarpon Springs and Sunset Beach.

Channing, 32, who attended Gaither and Tampa Catholic high schools, spent some of his younger years as an exotic dancer before venturing into modeling and acting.
